Open Practice Etiquette

A calm dance floor lets everyone improve. These simple rules are written for mixed-level ballroom practice sessions.

Dance-floor habits that help everyone

  1. Follow the line of dance. Traveling dances move counterclockwise around the room.
  2. Keep coaching brief. Move to the side of the floor for longer discussion.
  3. Ask before giving advice. A simple question keeps feedback respectful.
  4. Protect beginners. Leave extra space around newer dancers while they learn timing.
  5. Rotate kindly. Thank each partner after a dance, even during short drills.

Studio note

Practice is more effective when the room feels welcoming.

Clear etiquette is not about strict rules. It is about helping dancers concentrate, try again, and enjoy the music without worrying about avoidable collisions or awkward feedback.
